If you knew Mike, you’ll surely never forget him. He will always be remembered for his crazy, fun, wildly comical personality, his fiery attitude, hard working nature and extremely giving heart. He was a force to be reckoned with if provoked but a loyal friend to many. He loved all 3 of his children very much. He loved living on Beech Bluff Farm, tattoos and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He lived his life by his own rules. He was tough as nails but he’d give you the shirt off his back and the shirt off his neighbor’s back too! He was known to his closest family as Robyn Hood and always tried to help other people before helping himself.
Mike was one heck of a fighter and defied all odds in his difficult medical journey. He shocked the many teams of Doctor’s that treated him. In 2017 he survived the comeback of a lifetime and made medical history in Boston. Despite the grim outcome doctors expected in 2017 he survived and went back to living life on his own- and his way.
He was a hard working member of the JM Equipment team and family for many years. Mike’s absence will be felt by the many lives he touched for eternity.
Mike is survived by his 3 daughters- Jewels Sturgeon of New Bedford, Savannah Sturgeon-Kanakis of Assonet, and Layla Sturgeon of New Bedford, his Mother Mary Kennison and Step-Father Donald of New Bedford, his lifelong Father figure and Uncle- John Mello, his Sister and big supporter Dawn Neves and her husband Mark of New Bedford, his Sister Michelle Sarmento of Fairhaven, his Sister Crystal Burt of New Bedford, his Uncle Richard Mello of Dartmouth who was more like a brother, his lifelong best friends Glen & Samantha Cosmo of Acushnet, his very close cousins who grew up like siblings- the beloved late John Phillip Mello, Christopher Mello and Katelyn Mello-Hogan all of Freetown, his nieces Kayla and Kelsey Cosmo of Acushnet, Brianna Machado of New Bedford who stood by his side through his medical journey, Riley Burt of New Bedford, a nephew Asher Machado who was a great support during his medical journey and Corbin Sarmento of Fairhaven, a special kid Jilyian Silva, several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends. Mike was the son of the late Michael D. Sturgeon Sr.
Due to Mike’s wishes his Funeral Services will be private and in the care of the Rock Funeral Home in New Bedford.
We celebrated Mike's life on 5/22/2021 and an amazing time it was. We will continue to celebrate Mike and his life until the end of time.
