Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the Vivian (Lawrence) O’Brien of New Bedford and the late Leonard P. O’Brien she was a lifelong area resident and she attended St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford.
Ms. Gilmore worked as a Paraprofessional for over 30 years for the New Bedford Public Schools. She was dedicated to helping students with special needs. She always showed respect, care, compassion and patience with her students. Ms. Gilmore was a member and served as secretary of the New Bedford Federation of Paraprofessionals, Local 2378. She will always be regarded as strong, humble and a proud woman who never had a bad word to say to anyone.
During her long career, she worked at Roosevelt Junior High School, New Bedford High School, the Migrant Program, DeValle’s Day Care and most recently All Saints Catholic School where she was cherished by everyone.
Maureen was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her only hobby was taking care of others.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Southcoast Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion given to Maureen.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Laura DaSilva and her husband Manuel; a son, Jason Gilmore; a granddaughter, Jessica Dodge and her partner Ryan Sturtevant all of New Bedford; two brothers, Thomas O’Brien and his wife Audrey and Michael O’Brien all of Dartmouth; two nieces and one great niece.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 9 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 pm.
