Mary Priscilla Mendes

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Eduardo Jose and Elvira (Ribeiro) Mendes, she was a lifelong resident of the city.

Mary attended Campbell’s Secretarial School, Kenyon’s Business School, and IBM Plus School of Business. She worked as Assistant Supervisor and IBM Key Punch Operator at the Newport U.S. Naval Supply Base and Charleston Navy Yard in Charleston, SC, and retired in 1992 from the Acushnet Company after 24 years in the office.

She was a former member of the Ground Observer’s Corporation during WWII and a member of the Full Gospel Christian Fellowship. An avid writer, she loved decorating for the holidays and loved people. She made friends everywhere she went.

She is survived by a brother, Joseph Mendes and his wife Dolores; a niece, Doreen Mendes-Santos; three nephews, Ronald Mendes, Mark and Richard Godomski and three great-nieces. She was the sister of the late Anthony and Alfred Mendes, and Alice Godomski.

Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10AM at the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Visitation Tuesday from 4PM to 7PM.
