Maria R. Medeiros

Born in St. Michael Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (de Rego) Sousa, she grew up there and came to American November 18, 1977. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church.

Mrs. Medeiros was a homemaker who taught herself to read. She enjoyed going to Adult Day Care three times a week at Brandon Woods. She enjoyed puzzles, coloring, doing word search, reading the Bible and praying the rosary.

She is survived by her children Durvalina DeOliveira and her husband Rui of Assonet, Lidia Correira and her husband Roberto of Acushnet, Feliciano “Felix” Medeiros of Taunton, Celina Travassos and her husband Henry of Fairhaven, Alcidio “Danny” Medeiros and his wife Ana of Taunton, and Rita Medeiros and her husband Carlos of New Bedford; siblings, Francisco DeSousa of New Bedford, Gloria Camara of New Bedford, Antonio Sousa of New Bedford, Maria Trindate Vieira of New Bedford, and Maria Conceicao Vieira of the Azores; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be Monday, January 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Capacity is limited. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Seating is limited. Burial will be private.
