With sadness, love, and profound gratitude, the family of Maria “Lucy” (Abreu) Langlois, announces her passing on Thursday, April 22, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Ollie Langlois, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage, and daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Gouveia) Abreu.
Originally from Madeira, Portugal, Lucy grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and was one of eleven children.
Early in her career, Lucy was an adored hairdresser in Falmouth, Massachusetts. After finding her passion for children, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern Massachusetts University and enjoyed a long and accomplished career with the Department of Education serving the children of New Bedford. During her tenure as a beloved teacher, Lucy had a positive influence on all of her students.
Her surviving family include her daughter; Roseann Langlois and her partner Bryan Whitehead, a son; Jeffrey Langlois, four wonderful grandchildren; Luciana and Lucas Trabucco, Alexandre Langlois, and his wife Amber Langlois, Caitlin Seeley, and her husband Richard Seeley; two adorable great-grandchildren, loving siblings, caring nieces and nephews, and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all of us who cherished her dearly.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held at ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 9:00 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial private.
