Marc Surprenant, age 48, of Rochester, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at Mass General Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Laurie (Stevens) Surprenant, to whom he was married for 26 years.
Born in New Bedford, son of Janice (Lapre) Surprenant of Phoenix, Arizona and Eugene Surprenant and his wife Joanne of Acushnet. He had been a resident of Rochester for the past 24 years, previously living in New Bedford.
Mr. Surprenant was a member of the New Season’s Worship Center in East Freetown, where he served on the board and was also a member of the Music Ministry. He was an avid cyclist and had participated in the Mattapoisett Boat Race for over 10 years. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family and enjoyed a good laugh.
Besides his wife and parents he is survived by two daughters, Amanda Surprenant of Rochester and Sarah Surprenant of Freeport, Maine; his maternal grandmother, Eileen Lapre of Surprise, Arizona; two brothers, Kevin Surprenant of Nantucket and Eric Surprenant and his wife Elizabeth of St. Albans, Vermont; several aunts, an uncle, one nephew and two nieces.
His graveside service will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012, 2 PM at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ashley Blvd. New Bedford. In lieu of flowers donations to, the Pan-Mass Challenge, 77 4th Avenue, Needham, MA 02494, would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of the Rock Funeral Home, New Bedford.
