Manuel Borges, Jr.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Manuel and Diana (Daluz) Borges, he was a lifetime resident of the city.

Manuel served in the US Air Force for 20 years. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster and a Vietnam Service Medal with 3 brass stars. He also worked various jobs over the years for the city of New Bedford and at ML Goldberg Plumbing until his retirement. An avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, he loved to repair things for his family and friends. He loved going to Thursday lunches with his family. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by one son, Brian Borges and two daughters, Diana Borges and Melody Barnes, all of New Bedford; one brother, Ronald Borges of Crossville, TN; one sister, Vivian Borges of Assonet; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 10AM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5PM to 7PM. For tributes and online registration: www.rock-funeralhome.com
