Born in Maebashi City, Japan to her parents Kii and Hyakutaro Tomaru, she was married to Thomas in 1956. She came to the United States with her husband and first child in 1957, first moving to North Carolina, and shortly thereafter, settled in Worcester, MA. Mrs. Clemmey lived in the New Bedford area since 1977, where she worked as a stitcher for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, travel, and spending time with her family. In a 1990 feature in the New Bedford Standard Times, "War Brides: Foreigners by birth, Americans by marriage", the Clemmey's recounted the story of their courtship and subsequent marriage in postwar Japan.
She is survived by her husband, and their 8 children: Donald, George, Raymond, Joseph, Pauline, Donna, Philip and Janet. She is also survived by 17 dear grandchildren and 9 dear great grandchildren. In Japan, she is survived by her sister Shizuko and brother Tatsuo, four nephews and two grand-nieces.
