Lynne Anne Nunes

NEW BEDFORD — Lynne Anne (Dupont) Nunes, age 63 of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2022, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Lynne grew up in the Sassaquin Pond-area, where she developed her love for being near the water. For the last eight years, Lynne worked as a Trust Review Analyst for US Bank in Boston and was soon looking forward to her well-earned retirement. Though, her proudest role in life was as a devoted and loving mother to her two children, John and Joclyne. All who knew her could see that her children were the light of her life, evidenced by the countless sacrifices she made for them throughout both their childhoods and adulthoods. She was a dedicated sports, dance, and pageant mom – never missing a single event or the chance to participate in her children’s endeavors and success. She embodied strength, guidance, and love, yet also embraced every moment to have fun and enjoy a good laugh.

In her free time, Lynne loved spending time at the beach, vacationing, and taking day-trips, as well as tending to her garden and being in the sun. She was an avid reader, was often watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies, and of course, loved shopping. She always had pets throughout her life, and loved caring for her two surviving cats, Puddles and Rondo. In the winters, she enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics’ figure skating competitions – and most of all, she loved Christmas. Between the spirit of the season and her wall-to-wall decorations, Christmas marked a time of year filled with even more love and joy for her and her children. Lynne also enjoyed giving back whenever possible, serving as a committee member with the Miss New Bedford organization and volunteering in John’s youth sports teams’ parent booster clubs. Additionally, she was passionate in supporting the work of the Jimmy Fund, Toys for Tots, and the Wounded Warrior Project. In the eyes of all who knew her, she was the epitome of selflessness and eternal support, and will be greatly missed.

Lynne is survived by her two children, John Nunes, Jr. and Joclyne Nunes of New Bedford, as well as her brothers Paul and David Dupont, and her sister Pamela (Dupont) Felker. She was the daughter of the late Eleanor (Dawson) Dupont and the late Joseph “Armand” Arthur Dupont. She was also the sister of the late Roland Dupont – Lynne’s brother, whom she had a special bond with and not so coincidentally, shared the same exact date of Lynne’s passing, eleven years ago. Additionally, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, and brother and sister in-laws.

A public visitation will be held on Monday July 25th from 9:30am – 11:00am at Rock Funeral Home located at 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA, 02745. A private, invite-only, inurnment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund.
