Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the eldest daughter of the late Michael and Mary Rapoza. She was the wife of the late Manuel J. Jesus, Jr. and enjoyed many years of love and laughter with him. She was a wonderful mother, beloved grandmother, and a special sister and aunt. Her eldest great grandchildren were blessed to have spent hundreds of Saturdays visiting with their Grammy, and entertaining her with their stories and songs.
Lydia enjoyed reading romance novels, sewing, knitting, attending church, listening to Travis’s violin, indulging in coffee, donuts and sweets, and spending time with her family. Those who were blessed to have known Lydia were touched by her beautiful and independent spirit, her witty sense of humor, her devotion to her faith and family, and her continued resilience and personal fortitude throughout her 93 years.
She is survived by a son: Roy K. Jesus, his wife Michele and their children, Kimberly Mimoso and her significant other Nathan Viveiros, and Jeffrey Jesus and his wife Erin.She was the beloved great grandmother to Hayley and Colton Mimoso, and Kinsley Jesus. She is also survived by a daughter: Nancy Nielson, a granddaughter: Ashley Nielson, a brother: Gilbert Rapoza, with whom she enjoyed many fond times on the Cape, a sister: Lou Brillon and her husband Chuck, a sister in law, Cathy Rapoza, and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the sister of the late Michael, Ernie, Leonard, and Albert (Joey) Rapoza.
Lydia was lovingly cared for by the nurses and staff at Our Lady’s Haven and Beacon Hospice, and considered them family and friends as well. A private service was held under the direction of Rock Funeral Home to celebrate Lydia’s life.
