Born in New Bedford on June 30, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ernest J. Lussier and Jeanette (Alix) Lussier. She was lovingly raised and cared for by her grandmother, the late Rose Alix, her aunt, the late Blanche Peitavino, and her uncle and aunt, the late Maurice and Hilda Alix.
In August, 1956, she married Edward L. Medeiros of New Bedford. In 1957, they moved to Frankfurt, Germany until the fulfillment of Ed’s deployment with the United States Army in 1959. After returning home, Lorraine and Ed started a family and settled in Fairhaven, MA. They eventually relocated to Mattapoisett in 1983 and then back to New Bedford in 2007. However, her heart always remained in Fairhaven.
She was happiest when with her husband. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed dancing, lunch bunch Thursdays, golfing, going for walks, playing games, ski trips, theater, traveling, winters in Florida, dining out and anything else she could find to keep them social and busy. She had been a member of the Fairhaven‘s Mother’s Club, Friends of the Elderly of Mattapoisett and the Red Hat Ladies.
In 2018, her husband of 62 yrs passed away. With the help of her family, friends at Schooner Cove and others, she once again found enjoyment in social activities such as bridge night, movies, exercise classes, and bingo.
In 2023, she moved to Autumn Glen Assisted Living where she was cared for by wonderful people who kept her happy and active until her passing.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathi Newman and her husband Max of Dartmouth, Gina Shorrock and her husband Steven of Mattapoisett; four grandchildren, Christopher Newman, Ryan Newman, Natasha Shorrock and Alexa Shorrock; a great-granddaughter, Penelope Newman; a sister, Johanna Jenkins and her husband Harvey; and a cousin, Barbara Trongone.
Her funeral mass will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven, MA on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org). For on-line tributes, please visit our website at www.rock-funeralhome.com
