Lee Roy Greenwalt, 88, of East Freetown, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Greenwalt was a resident of East Freetown for the past 60 Years and currently resided at Autumn Glen Assisted Living in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts for the past year.
He was the husband of Therese Y. (Parent) Greenwalt with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.
Born in Windsor, Colorado, a son of the late Alex and Mary (Krause) Greenwalt. He worked at Cameo Curtains as a foreman and for Sears and Roebuck as a salesman for 25 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal (1 star) and the American Theater Medal. He was a former member of the Freetown VFW, he enjoyed attending naval ship reunions (James C. Owens – “The Fighting Jimmy C”) and had great interests in history and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Glen Greenwalt and wife Michelle of Westport and Mark Greenwalt of Marfa, TX; a foster daughter, Joselyn Kirby and husband Bruce of New Bedford; a brother, Richard “Sonny” Greenwalt and wife Wilma of Ogden, UT; a sister Regina Husband Steve; seven grandchildren, Vaughn, Stephanie, Max, Myles, Mason, Myrle Greenwalt and Brittany Araujo; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alvin Greenwalt.
Calling hours are Sunday, March 8, 2015 4-7pm at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 10:30am at St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown and Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
