Laurent L. “Larry” Crete, Jr., 68, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Ellen (Gallant) Crete with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of Angela (Pescosolido) Crete of Providence and the late Laurent L. Crete.
Mr. Crete proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1978-1985 and received the Good Conduct Medal.
He studied electronics at New England Tech and electronic instrumentation at Community College of Rhode Island and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Rhode Island College in 1987.
Through the years, Larry was employed in various and interesting capacities including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Loomis Fargo, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Buttonwood Park and Walmart. Most recently, he worked for the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home as an Activities Assistant. He began as a volunteer and was then hired permanently. This was not a job for Larry, but a time of enjoyment and happiness being with the residents. He loved music and played guitar and drums in earlier years. He enjoyed watching baseball and football and cheered for his favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Larry was always informed, keeping up with current events. He will be dearly missed by his loving family.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are his children, Benjamin Crete of New Bedford and Katherine Crete of Riverside, RI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Denise Purro and his step-father, Theodore Zolnierz.
Private arrangements are in the care of Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
