Kathleen (Kathy) A. Deneault, 76, of North Easton died unexpectedly after a brief illness on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Her death has been a shock to her family and friends, especially her grieving husband of 53 years, Gerald M. Deneault.
Kathleen, the first child of the late Edward Bell and Ruth (Foss), was born and raised in New Bedford. She was a proud graduate of New Bedford High School. Kathy and Gerry moved to Easton in 1971 to raise their family and she resided there until her passing.
As the matriarch of the family, she kept the family together. “Grandma” was adored by her 5 grandchildren, Thomas Eyre, Kathleen (Katie) Eyre, Holly Eyre, Annabelle Huston, and Caroline Huston. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Betsy Eyre and her husband Michael of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Amy Huston and her husband Richard of Dartmouth, her brother Edward Bell and his wife Carol of Merritt Island, Florida, her sister Cynthia Sarabia and her husband Gilbert of New Port Richey, Florida, her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand nephews. She was also predeceased by her son Gerald “Jay” Deneault.
Kathy engaged in a variety of activities and hobbies. A communicant of Holy Cross Parish in Easton, she served as a member of the parish council and the women’s club, of which she was the former president. She also was fond of volunteering for My Brother’s Keeper in Easton. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, cross stitching, scrapbooking, and researching her family genealogy. She loved to decorate for the holidays, and she made sure every room in the house was on theme. Another love of hers was the Boston Red Sox; she watched every game and rooted for them through the highs and the lows. She was an avid card player and enjoyed the time she spent with her card group, however her favorite pastime was playing cards with her family. Spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren (her crowning glory) brought her the most joy.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 9 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Julie Billiart Parish, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-7 pm, also at ROCK FUNERAL HOME.
