Joseph M. Garcia

Born in Portugal, a son of Manuel Garcia of Taunton and the late Maria (Andrade) Garcia, he immigrated to the United States in 1959.

Mr. Garcia had formerly lived in Taunton before moving to Acushnet 19 years ago. He graduated from Taunton High School in 1976 and was the President and CEO of Garcia Imported Tile in Fairhaven and Taunton for over 20 years before retiring due to illness.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven and was past president of the Our Lady of Angels Association. He was a member of the Prince Henry Society in New Bedford and Business Network International in New Bedford.

He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and was an avid golfer and fisherman.

Besides his father and fiancé he is survived by three children, Jessica Garcia-Feigl and her husband Daniel of Acushnet, Ian Garcia of New Bedford and Alexandria Garcia of Old Town, Maine; four siblings, John Garcia of Taunton, Dr. Mary-Ann Garcia Medeiros and her husband David of Falmouth, Manuel Garcia and his wife Amelia and Caroline Da Silva and her husband Victor of Taunton; two step children, Justine Gordon of Acushnet and David Gordon and his wife Heidi of Dartmouth; two step grandchildren, Tessa and Jasmine and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial mass Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 440 Main St., Fairhaven. Visiting hours, Sunday 2-6 in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will be private.
