Jose O. Carreiro, 85, of New Bedford passed away peacefully Monday, February 7, 2022 of natural causes. He was the husband of Fernanda V. (Viveiros) Carreiro. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 18th.
Born in Faja De Baixo, Sao Miguel, Acores, the son of the late Joao O. and Diamantina Carreiro, he came to America in 1967. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Mr. Carreiro worked as a supervisor at Plymouth Rubber Company in Canton. Prior to coming to America, Jose worked as a salesman at Pereira, Pereira Company in Ponta Delgada. In his spare time, he enjoyed going on vacations, especially to New Hampshire and spending time at the Cape Cod Canal. He was a Sporting soccer fan and he also enjoyed the New England sports teams. Especially the Patriots and Red Sox.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Ana Camara and her late husband Staff Sgt. Joseph Camara and Mary Carreiro and her fiancé, James Dias; four grandchildren, Johnathan Rodrigues, Matthew Camara, Angela Camara, and Ashley Camara; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joao O. Carreiro of Faja Baixo, Azores.
His funeral will be Friday, February 11, 2022 at 9 a.m. from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford.
