Jorge F. Monteiro, 86, of New Bedford, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at home following a battle with cancer. He was the husband of Maria Ceu (Mimoso) Monteiro with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Jaime Furtado Monteiro and Adelaide (Correia) Monteiro, he came to the United States in 1954 and settled in New Bedford.
He had worked as a supervisor at Ceco Construction in Boston for 32 years until his retirement.
Jorge was a huge fan of Benfica and also enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins. He is the oldest active member and first President of the Centro Luzo American Club. Jorge was also one of the founding members of their soccer team. He served as President, Vice President and Treasurer. He loved spending time with his wife taking rides to the beach. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his three sons, James Monteiro of Acushnet, Richard Monteiro and his wife Pamela of Warwick, RI and Robert Monteiro of New Bedford; his sister, Dora Carreiro and her husband Robert of Springhill, FL; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Jose B. Monteiro, Serafim Monteiro and Dr. Adelaide Monteiro Freitas.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, September 26, 2022 from 5:00-8:00 pm.
