Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John Teixeira, Sr. and Bemvinda (Coutinho) Teixeira, he had resided in Acushnet for many years before moving to Fairhaven 30 years ago.
He had a successful career as a talented mechanic, co- owning Lou’s Autobody in Acushnet and previously working at Coutinho’s Garage.
John was an antique car buff who took great pride in his own El Camino, which he exhibited at car shows. As a mechanic, he enjoyed working on his own car, but more importantly, teaching his son and grandson the trade. He was a sports fan who enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. Watching WWF, before WWE, and listening to classic rock music was a source of entertainment to John. Most of all, John loved spending time with his loving family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close friends. He valued hard work and neverending determination to ensure his grandchildren and family were taken care of; even if that entailed giving up his glory years to help raise his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Tracy Teixeira and husband Steven Gemaly, John T. Teixeira and Keith Teixeira and wife Cheryl; his siblings, Lou Teixeira, Lydia Teixeira Rodrigues, Leecee Teixeira, Tony Teixeira and Joe Teixeira; eleven grandchildren, Brittney Teixeira, Kayla Teixeira, Paige Teixeira, Brandon Teixeira, Connor Teixeira, Caden Teixeira, Riley Gibbs Teixeira, Jakob Michaelis, Lukas Michaelis, Maxwell Michaelis and Sophie Michaelis; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine LeBert.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1-4 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
