John Amaral, 74, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 at home following a long battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Cruz) Amaral with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Feteira Grande, Sao Miguel, Azores, son of the late Joao and Maria A. (Pimental) Amaral, he came to the United States in 1966 and has lived in this area ever since.
John had a successful career as a landscaper for over 40 years. A man of strong faith, he was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his loving family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Zenobia Cabral and her husband Edward of Acushnet and Diane Purrington and her husband Garret of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Lacey and Katelyn Cabral, Natalie and Logan Purrington; his sister, Maria Pimentel of Vancouver, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 9am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford.
