Joao F. Marmelo

Born in Linhares Da Beira, a son of the late Fransisco R. and Maria do Rosario (Ferreira) Marmelo he grew up there and came to America in 1976.

Mr. Marmelo worked for Codman as a surgical instrument repair technician. Joao was a big Sporting Clube de Portugal fan and a member of the Portuguese American Athletic Club. He also enjoyed playing cards, gardening and making wine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Antero Marmelo of New Bedford, Vera Andrade and her husband Robert of New Bedford, grandchildren, Catarina, Alexandre, and Peyton Andrade; brothers and sisters in law; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel Marmelo, Alberto Ramos, Baltazar Marmelo, Antonio Marmelo, and Rosa Soares.

His funeral will be at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford, MA.
