Jeanne D. (Jean) Sylvia, 87, of New Bedford passed away at home Monday, February 22, 2021 with her son at her side after a long fought battle with dementia and complications from a stroke. She was the wife of the late Raymond T. Sylvia.
Born in Lewiston, ME a daughter of the late Alphonse and Fabiola (Martin) Jean, she came to New Bedford in the 1940’s. Jeanne was raised by her Uncle and Aunt, the late Edouard and Anna Bussiere. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Martyr Parish.
Mrs. Sylvia worked as a certified nurses’ aide at Savoy Nursing Home, St. John’s Nursing Home and also a private duty nurse.
The family would like to thank the healthcare providers who helped, Jeanne over the years. Overlook, Bayada, Premiere, Anodyne, Nightingale, Project Independence, and Trinity Hospice. She was also cared for by Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Our Lady’s Haven, Brandon Woods, New Bedford, St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Anne’s, and Morton Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, John Sylvia and James Sylvia of New Bedford; cousins, Patricia Forest and Pauline Fernandes; and a nephew, Sonny Jean. She was the mother of the late William Sylvia; sister of the late Ovila Jean; aunt of the late Gloria Jean; and cousin of the late Arthur J. Villeneuve, Jr.
Her funeral mass will be Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Martyr Parish, County St., New Bedford burial will be private.
