Jeanette M. (Coleman) Harrison, 91, of New Bedford passed away Friday, March 8, 2024 in Sacred Heart Nursing Home after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. She was the former wife of the late Gilbert Harrison and longtime companion of the late Frank Pitta.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late George and Helen (Sylvia) Coleman. She was a lifelong area resident.
Ms. Harrison graduated from New Bedford High School and attended the Southern Massachusetts University. Jeanette worked as a librarian for the City of New Bedford for 35 years.
She enjoyed playing tennis and was a former member of the Tennis Association. She enjoyed bowling with the Fairhaven COA, reading, gardening, and traveling. Jeanette was a devoted grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Janet M. Chretien and her husband Lucien of Acushnet and Gilbert “Butch” Harrison and his wife Lynn of SC; grandchildren, Heath, Christine and Melissa (Giancarlo) of Canada, Yvette (Eric) and Randi (Michael) of MA and Christopher (Khaliun) of UT; ten great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Patricia Marshall of Westport, Joyce Pacheco of Dartmouth, Eleanor Herron of NY, Richard Coleman and George Coleman both of Dartmouth; dear and longtime friends, Daniel Pita and his wife Celia of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Georgette Warner and Jacquelyn Brown.
Her funeral service will be Friday, March 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Visitation will be Friday 9am to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
