James C. Hadfield, 68, of E. Freetown and previously of New Bedford passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Malonson) Hadfield with whom he would have celebrated 41 years of marriage this November.
Born and raised in New Bedford, a son of the late James S. and Hazel (Reed) Hadfield he moved to Freetown to raise his family.
Mr. Hadfield was the Director of Highway Planning for SRPEDD. He was formerly a city planner for New Bedford and in Maine. Jim was very involved with the Town of Freetown and in 2000 was named “Man of The Year”. He also oversaw the development of Central Park in Freetown including the “Little Fenway”. He was an avid golfer in his spare time and a huge Boston sports fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James R. Hadfield and his wife Kristine of Norton; grandchildren, Morgan and James; and a grand-pup, Remy.
His visitation will be Thursday, October 1, 2020 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial to follow in Peckham West Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford.
