Born in Feteira Pequena, Sao Miguel, Azores, son of the late Angelo Barbosa and Maria da Conceicao (Duarte) Carreiro, he came to the United States with his wife on November 24, 1972 and settled in New Bedford. While in the Azores, he served in the Portuguese Army.
Mr. Barbosa was the proud owner of Nova Bakery from 1995-2018. He previously worked as a presser for Calvin Clothing and Riverside Manufacturing.
Jaime loved soccer and was an avid Benfica fan. He enjoyed all things Harry Potter from movies to books. He was a member of St. Michael’s Social Club. Jaime enjoyed going for walks, loved being outdoors in the sunshine and sitting on his porch with his wife. Most of all, he loved spending time with his loving family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Sonia Barbosa, Michelle Barbosa and Janet Barbosa; his siblings, Lourdes Macedo, Auxilia Vieira, Jose Barbosa and his wife Fatima, Fatima Torres and her husband Humberto, Carlos Carreiro and his wife Maria Francisca, and Conceicao Carreiro and her husband Duarte; several nieces and nephews; and his grand cats. He was predeceased by his brother, Angelo Carreiro.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 9am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday 4-7pm.
