Isabel Amaral Ferreira, 76, of New Bedford, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, peacefully, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Manuel Adelino Ferreira with whom she shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Ribeira das Tainhas, Saint Michael, Azores, she came to the United States in 1967 and settled in New Bedford. She was the beloved daughter of the late Gil and Isaura Amaral.
While in Portugal, she received her degree in education from Escola do Magistério Primário de Ponta Delgada. She had worked as a paraprofessional in the New Bedford School system, from 1988 until her retirement in 2010. She also taught Portuguese to students in the New Bedford community for many years and had fond memories of many of her students throughout the years.
Isabel loved to cook, especially her famous biscoitos which she loved to share with all. Known for her beautiful smile and kindness, she enjoyed caring for all people. She and her family traveled frequently, including annual trips back to her beloved homeland. Most of all, Isabel loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Suzy Clasby and her husband Steven of Taunton, Ruy Ferreira and his wife Katie of Lakeville and Sonya Silva and her husband David of Rochester; her brother, Gil Amaral and his wife Mary of Fairhaven and the Azores; her sister Ines Ferreira of the Azores; her sister-in-law, Adelaide Amaral of the Azores; her grandchildren, Jacob Aubertine, Lauren Aubertine, Jessica Clasby, Aiden Clasby, Samuel Ferreira, Olivia Ferreira, Kylie Silva, Ryan Silva and Lyza Silva; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Eduardo Amaral and her brother-in-law, Andre Ferreira.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
