Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late George and Katherine (Konieczna) Szczepanik, she had resided in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Fairhaven.
Mrs. D’Oliveira had worked as a stitcher for Arista Sportswear and the New Bedford school system in the cafeteria for many years, retiring from Carney Academy.
She loved traveling, walking and camping. Irene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time shared with her loving family and close friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Jeanne D’Oliveira of South Dartmouth and Janet Majka and her husband Stephen of Dennis; two grandchildren, Jennifer Mandile and her husband Robert of Lynnfield and Joshua Majka and his wife Amy of Brewster; three great-grandchildren, William and Ryan Mandile and Lily Majka. She was the sister of the late Jeanne Dziordz, Alice Szczepanik, Helen Alves and Phyllis Dube.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 10am-12pm with a Celebration of Life at 12pm at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady’s Haven, 71 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
