Humberto Amaral, age 79, of New Bedford, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. He was the loving husband of Floripes M. (da Costa) Amaral, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Mariano and Helena (da Conceicao) Amaral, he immigrated to the United States in 1976.
Humberto worked as a Machinist for many years, working the last ten years at Johnson & Johnson Orthopedics in Raynham, before finally retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an avid photographer. He loved to eat, cook and was known for his famous secret recipe hot sauce “Brobolhos”.
In addition to his wife survivors include: his three children, Jose “Joe” Amaral and his wife Ana Paula Amaral of Dartmouth, Helena Amaral Silva and her husband Sergio Silva of Westport and Susana Viera and her husband David Viera, Sr. of Dartmouth; seven grandchildren, Eric Amaral, Andrew Amaral, Natasha Silva, Jonathan Silva, David Viera, Jr., Hailey Viera and Isaac Viera; a sister, Rosa Camara of Fall River; several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Manuel and Jose Amaral.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 7:30 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 8:30 AM in Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours, TODAY, Tuesday 4-8 PM.
