Harold J. Morrell, Sr., 94, of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Rolande Ludivine Marie (Lapointe) Morrell with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Victor and Ada (Brady) Morrell, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, then enlisted in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Morrell was a printer, an occupation that he thoroughly enjoyed. He worked as a printer at Morse Twist Drill and as a machinist for Aerovox in New Bedford and Automatic Machines in Attleboro until his retirement. Following retirement, he printed Bibles for church in his home.
Harold was very active in his church and spread the Gospel door to door with Rick Roberts. He enjoyed bass fishing on his boat, woodworking and spending time with his loving family.
He is survived by his children, Harold J. Morrell, Jr. of New Bedford, Alan Morrell of Redding, CA, Madeleine Machado of N. Smithfield, RI, Roger Morrell of E. Providence, RI and Nancy Isabelle of Acushnet and their spouses; goddaughter, Cindy Peters of New Bedford; seventeen grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Janet Roderiques and brother of the late Margaret Caldas, Edmund, Nathan, William, Victor and Mazie Morrell.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 7:30am in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8pm. For online tributes, please visit: www.rock-funeralhome.com
