Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Antone and Liduina (Rodrigues) Paiva, she was a life-long resident of the area.
Mrs. Costa was a Stitcher for several factories in the area, later becoming the Owner and Operator, along with her husband, of Pinky’s Fabric on Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford for many years.
Pinky was very friendly and sociable and enjoyed writing letters and cards.
Survivors include: her son, Robert Costa and his wife Maria of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Peter and David Costa; two great grandchildren, Robert William Costa and Lauren Hackworth; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Eva Furtado; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Henry, Alfonso, Antone and Louis Paiva.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Autumn Glen and HopeHealth Hospice for their love and care of Gloria.
Her funeral will be held Monday, June 23, 2014 at 9 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her funeral mass at 10 AM in St. Kilian’s Church, 306 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours, Sunday 2-5 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
