Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late William and Isabella (Hart) Jones, she had lived in Freetown for many years before moving to Gardner nine years ago.
Mrs. Fischer and her husband were formerly part owners of cranberry bogs in Lakeville. She had also worked for Ocean Spray for several years.
Gladys had a great sense of humor; she enjoyed eating out and socializing with friends. She was very proud of the twelve years that she was a foster grandparent at Ashley and Campbell Schools in New Bedford.
Survivors include: her daughter, Joyce Kabat and her husband Lawrence of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Douglas Kabat of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Lauren Kabat of Jaffrey; nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Edwin and Warren Jones and cousin of the late Frank Hart.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service Tuesday, August, 26, 2014 at 11 AM in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation 10-11 AM, prior to the service.
