Gerald “Jerry” Souza, 77, of New Bedford died Sunday, January 11, 2015 in St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Louise (Tremblay) Souza who he had been married to for 46 years.
Born in New Bedford a son of the late Manuel and Mary (Amaral) Souza he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Souza graduated from New Bedford High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for 45 years at Universal Industries as a supervisor. Gerry enjoyed anything involving athletics. He was very active with SEYAA. There he managed little league and was an umpire. He was also a basketball referee. In his spare time, he loved gardening and flowers, going to the casinos and going out to eat.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Souza; many cousins and friends; two brother-in-laws, Paul Tremblay and Frank Baylies both of New Bedford; three nephews, Frankie Baylies, Michael Baylies and Eric Baylies.
His funeral will be Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. in Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours, Wednesday 4-7 PM. For online tribute www.rock-funeralhome.com.
