Gabriela Cabral

Gabriela Cabral, age 94, passed away at Hathaway Manor on June 4, 2017, after a long illness. She was the daughter to Joao Mendes Coelho and Teresa Cabral Mendes of Sao Paio, Portugal. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Gaspar Cabral of Freetown.

She was the matriarch of a small, but closely knit family: her daughter Graciete Medeiros and her husband Edward of Freetown and grandsons Steven Medeiros of Freetown and Scott Medeiros and his wife Julie Snow of Wakefield, RI and a great-granddaughter, Gabriella Medeiros. She is also survived by cousins in Portugal, and by many close friends, who became her extended family in the US.

Gabriela worked as a stitcher until she stayed home to care for her two grandsons. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, and traveling with her family. She loved coffee ice cream, hot dogs and beans, and animals, especially cats.

She was active in the Freetown Senior Club and enjoyed many activities at the Senior Center. She will be missed by her “church family” at St. John Neumann Church. She will be remembered fondly for her friendliness, and her love for her family, and for her sense of humor.

The family gives thanks to the caring staff at Hathaway Manor, who have cared for her for 16 months, and to the entire Compassionate Care staff for their help and dedication during the last month.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church at 157 Middleboro Road, in East Freetown. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church before the Funeral Mass.
