Born in Dartmouth, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Borges) Souza, she was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.
Mrs. Martin was a well-known greeter at Ann & Hope and also worked at Kay Windsor. She loved music, singing and dancing. She and her husband’s favorite song was “To Each His Own”.
She is survived by her daughter, Doreen R. Barton and husband Bruce of Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Heather and husband Dan, Sonya and Nadine; her great-grandchildren, Noah, Ryley, Olivia, Aden, Cameron, Oliver, Dylan, and the late Angel Cole; her longtime companion, Wallace Clapp; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Hilda Sylvia, Frank, Joseph, George, Alvin and Manny Souza.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090.
