Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Armand and Albina (Gauthier) Doucet, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mrs. Mello worked as a winder for the former Aerovox Corporation for many years before retiring. After retirement, she did volunteer work with the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford, and worked as a lunch aide for the New Bedford School Department.
An avid bingo player, Mrs. Mello also enjoyed crocheting, bowling, playing cards, and meals and holiday parties with her friends at the Caroline Street Apartments. She especially enjoyed her annual trips to the casino.
She was mother of the late Russell A. Caron, and sister of the late Armand Doucet, Jr., Ernest “Buckey” Doucet, and Georgette M. Kirby.
She is survived by her best friend, Shirley Baker of Fairhaven; one sister, Claire St. Amour and her husband Albert “Gus” of Fall River; as well as both the Doucet and Mello families. She is also survived by the Kirby family of New Bedford, which includes several generations of nieces and nephews.
Her Graveside Service will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00AM at St. John’s Cemetery, 664 Allen Street, New Bedford.
