Edward J Sylvia

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Anthony and Julia Soares Sylvia, he resided in New Bedford most of his life.

Ed was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and was the owner of Ed Sylvia’s Motor Sales of New Bedford. In later years, he devoted much of his time at Executive Mitsubishi in New Bedford. He was known for sharing his extensive knowledge and passion for automobiles with his colleagues and family. He’ll be remembered fondly by friends and family for his remarkable memory of all U.S. roadways, larger than life smile, and his signature suspenders. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his 3 children, Kathleen Ferreira and her husband Manuel of East Freetown; Todd Kuczewski and his wife Christine of North Dighton; Lee Kuczewski and his wife Cléa Liquard of Providence, RI; 2 brothers, Robert Sylvia of Florida; Raymond Sylvia and his wife Kay of CA; 2 sisters, Barbara Faunce and her husband Earl of Fairhaven; Eunice Michaud and her husband Raymond of Westport,; and his 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 9AM at the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt Pleasant Street, New Bedford. Burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Mattapoisett. Funeral Arrangements are in the care of the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford.
