Eduino Matias Soares, known by “Dudu” a beloved and devoted individual known for his fun and humorous spirit, passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on October 14, 1945, to Matias Antonio Soares and Josefa Inacia Silva Soares. Eduino was born and raised in Sao Vicente, Cape Verde, where he developed a lifelong passion for music, singing, playing the guitar and being a member of the band Chave de Fenda (Screwdriver).
A merchant marine for many years, he traveled many countries before settling in his beloved Sao Vicente then immigrating to the United States in 1989.
Eduino resided in New Bedford and was a cherished member of the community. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Francisca (Pereira) Soares. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children, Edna Soares-Swenson and her husband Jason, Nuno E. Soares, and a proud grandfather to Angela Soares, all of New Bedford. Eduino was also father to Helga Andrade Soares of France. He was a loving brother to Antonio Matias Soares and his wife Maria, Luis Matias Soares of Portugal, and Emidio Matias Soares and his wife Dianela, all of New Bedford. Tio Dudu loved his nieces and nephews and will be truly missed by them. Eduino was predeceased by his siblings, Januario Matias Soares, Jose Matias Soares, Maria Celestina Soares and Inacia Silva Soares.
Eduino's love for life was evident in his frequent visits to Cape Verde, his affection for animals, his family, friends and watching his favorite soccer team Benfica play. Known as a jokester, he enjoyed spreading laughter and was fond of cartoons, Bugs Bunny being his favorite which reflected his lighthearted nature. He couldn’t take anything serious and found humor even in the most serious conversations.
He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 9:00AM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00AM in the Christian Fellowship Center, 822 Church Street, New Bedford, MA 02745.
