Edmund Costa Pires

Edmund C. Pires passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, January 6, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Rosemand “Rose” (Guy) Pires for 27 years. He was the cherished son of the late Anibal and Ilda (Silvestre) da Costa.

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Edmund worked in the manufacturing industry - 30 years at Cornell Dubilier Electronics and 23 years at the Aerovox Corporation. He was an active member of the St. Michael Social Club for over 62 years, where he enjoyed cooking in their kitchen, playing cards with his fellow members, participating in their soccer league as both a player and a coach, and serving a term as vice president of the club.

He was a proud and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was blessed to have many close friendships and could always be found with his “baby” Zack (his adopted dog) at his side.

In addition to his wife Rose, he leaves behind his children Diane and Jesse Cook of Fairhaven, and Susan and David Gauthier of Rhode Island; his stepchildren Donna and Bob Doyle of Florida and Tracy and Arnie Bridge of North Carolina; his grandchildren Jennifer Pires, Michael Pires and Amanda Cook, all of New Bedford; his step-grandchildren Gregory Bridge of Fall River, Gabrielle Lerma of NC and Trey Doyle of FL; 6 great grandchildren; and his brother and Sister-in-law Ray and Gloria Uhler of CA.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 11:30am at the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Visitation will be held prior from 9:30am – 11:30am. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.
