Dorothy “Dot” (Marshall) Blackburn, 105, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Blackburn, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Antone and Victoria (Gierlasinski) Marshall she was a lifelong area resident. Dot was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
Mrs. Blackburn was an attendant at Marianne Laundromat for 20 years. Prior to that, she was a stitcher at Gro-Togs for 18 years.
Dot was a member of the St. Francis Assisi Seniors. Growing up, she had a wonderful knack for crafts and sewing, which lead to her becoming a successful seamstress for many years. She enjoyed line dancing, trips to Foxwoods, and spent much of her free time at Lincoln Park Ballroom, dancing to the big bands with her husband before he passed in 1998. Spending time with family was very important. She touched many hearts, and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving children, Raymond Blackburn of Warren, RI, Janice Gauvin of New Bedford, and Steven Blackburn and his wife Angelica of FL; three grandsons, Scott Barrows and his wife Dawn, Daniel Blackburn, and Matthew Robichaud; five great-grandchildren, Brooke Cruz and her husband Adrian, Jakob Barrows, Alyssa Barrows, Brayden Robichaud, and Jayson Robichaud, and a niece, Emilie Converse.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by her funeral service at 11:00AM, in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
