Born in New Bedford to the late Mary (Peters) and Joseph Barckett, she moved to Dartmouth, where she raised her five children with her husband of more than 39 years, Thomas S. Moses.
She loved gardening, sewing, sitting in the sun, and listening to the music of James Taylor. One of her greatest passions was cooking for her family and making pastries, especially her signature cheesecake. She turned her passion for baking into Dee Dees Deelights, providing pastries for special events and to local restaurants.
The Moses home in Dartmouth was not only a home for her family, but a home away from home for her extended family – aunts, uncles, and cousins – and many friends, who were always greeted with a table teeming with full course meals, desserts, and the inevitable pot of coffee, ready to be poured.
Her most prized possessions included her perfectly seasoned cast iron pans and her beloved Suburban.
The consummate host and friend to so many, she will be sorely missed, not only by her family, but by the many who frequented the Moses household regularly or showed up for the “big tent” events in the back yard, especially the annual “Lobster Pigout.”
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Maronite Catholic Church of New Bedford. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Joseph Moses of Dartmouth and his companion April and son Evan; Leilah Silveira and her husband Jeffery of New Bedford; Jesse Moses of Oxnard, CA; Jake Moses of Los Angeles, CA; and Damara Moses of Newport, RI. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Barckett and his wife Catherine Madsen, and his daughter and Diane’s goddaughter Ashley Barckett and her husband Isaac Meisenheimer; and her two beloved grandchildren, Thomas and Leilani.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
