Colleen A. Gonsalves

Born in New Bedford and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of Diane J. (Poirier) Bento and the late John B. Bento.

Colleen was a graduate of New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Bristol Community College.

She had worked as a Registered Nurse for Corrigan Mental Health Center in Fall River for many years. Previously, she was a nurse at Taunton State Hospital and the Bristol County House of Corrections.

Colleen was a sun worshipper and loved her dogs, Tobey and Max. Her granddaughter Josie was the light of her life.

Surviving in addition to her mother, is her son, John K. Gonsalves, III and his companion Danica Watts of Norton; her granddaughter, Josie Gonsalves; her step-brother, Richard Bento and his wife Connie of New Bedford; her aunt, Suzanne Masten and her husband David of Fairhaven; her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, Jarid, Jennell, Ciara, Trevor, Matthew, Olivia, Gio, Carel, Zyell and Cianna; her close friends, Cheryl Enos and Maryanna Medeiros; and her former husband, John K. Gonsalves. She was predeceased by her brother, Troy M. DeMello.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 8:30-10 a.m. with a Funeral Service beginning at 10 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
