Born in Woonsocket, RI, the daughter of the late Edward and Louise (Norris) Marchand, she was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and later received her LPN Degree from Diman Regional Technical High School in Fall River.
Claire was employed as an LPN at Our Lady’s Haven and Nichols House both in Fairhaven for several years. She was a member of the St. Therese’s Senior Club and the Garment Workers and Friends Club. Claire was an avid reader and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks for going above and beyond with their compassionate care for Claire.
She is survived by her five children, Anne Marie Hebert of New Bedford, Susan Grinsted of New Bedford, James Hebert and his wife Nancy of Dartmouth, Claire Millette of Fairhaven, Francis Hebert of Lugoff, SC; a daughter in-law Donna Hebert of Dartmouth; a sister Jacqueline Barbato of Wallingford, CT; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; four step-children and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Claire was also the sister of the late Jacques Marchand.
Her funeral will be Friday, September 11, 2020 at 9am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
