Carol A. Sylvia

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Gabriel “Gabby” Souza and Dorothy (Catlow) Souza, she was a lifelong resident of Acushnet.

Mrs. Sylvia had worked as an administrative assistant to the Vice President at Mass Maritime Academy for nearly 30 years. Previously, she worked in the field of cosmetology as a licensed electrologist.

Carol loved to travel and had numerous adventures throughout the world. She was very active with the rowing team and enjoyed daily walks. Horseneck Beach was one of her favorite places. She was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret E. Sylvia and son-in-law, Scott Pemberton; her life partner, Mark Faria; her sister, Deborah Seekins; her grandchildren, Cody, Chelsea, Rylie and Seth; five great-grandchildren; her nephew, Kevin Murray and wife Kathy; and her former husband Daniel Sylvia. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Jason Sylvia; her siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Murray and Frank Wydra and her nephew, Brian Murray.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 9am-12pm with a Funeral Service at 12pm in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
