Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Manuel A. and Mary P. (Pacheco) Souza, he was resident of Acushnet for 60 years. Arthur was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational HS, class of 1947; he served in the United States Navy during WWII, serving on two ships, the USS Yellowstone and Joseph E. Campbell.
He was employed as a machinist foreman at Rodney Metals for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He loved nature and during his youth he enjoyed hunting and fishing. During his retirement he enjoyed wintering in Florida and enjoyed country and western music. He was always busy with projects as he loved working with his hands. He always had a soft spot for children, but foremost was the love of family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven M. Souza of Brockton and Robert A. Souza of Fairhaven; a daughter Sharon M. Josefek and her husband Stephen of Freetown; three grandchildren Timothy and Robert Souza and Dante Josefek; Two great-grandchildren Liam and Nolan Souza; and four nieces, Kathleen Hardy, Karen Thomas, Barbara Johnson and Lisa Raposo. He was the brother of the late Arlene Rodrigues.
His funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10:00AM in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main Street, Acushnet, followed by a burial in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
