Center due to complications from Sarcoidosis. She was born on May 10, 1958 in the village of Candelaria, Sao Miguel of the Azores Islands in Portugal to parents Beatriz and Fernando Carreiro. She has two siblings, a brother, Fred, and a sister, Teresa. When she was 9 years old, she immigrated with her family to New Bedford, Massachusetts. Ana was a bright and beautiful young girl and it wasn’t long before she caught the attention of another local Azorean boy, Joseph. They fell in love in their youth and were soon married on July 8, 1978. By 1981, Ana gave birth to her son Derek and 13 years later her daughter Danielle. She had a cocker spaniel, Sandy, who loved Ana unconditionally until she crossed the rainbow bridge. Ana was an incredibly nurturing and caring mother who had a special gift for making people feel safe and seen. She loved hosting family and friends at her house for the holidays and was one of the best cooks you would ever meet. Ana worked as an agent at Hughes Insurance in New Bedford for most of her life and truly valued connecting with her customers and people in the community. Outside of work, Ana enjoyed gardening, trying new recipes, dancing with loved ones, going for walks with her grand puppy, pranking her husband, spending time at the beach, taking photos of her family, playing Candy Crush on her iPad, traveling to new places, and connecting with long-distance relatives on Facebook. Towards the end of her life, Ana was involved in the Sarcoidosis community and very passionate about raising awareness of the disease. Ana will be missed more than you can imagine by the family she leaves behind - her husband Joe of 44 years, son Derek and daughter-in-law Kristen, daughter Danielle, brother Fred Carreiro, sister-in-law Tammy Vacha-Carreiro, sister Teresa Hopwood and husband Blaine. She was a loving Madrinha to many godchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her family is incredibly inspired that she made the decision to save lives by becoming an organ donor and knows that she would take great pride in being able to help as many people as possible in her life and her death. May her love touch your heart, and may her gift to others give them strength.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
