Alice L. Metcalf McHugh

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of the late William and Edith (Hindle) Metcalf, she had lived in New Jersey before moving to New Bedford in 1962.

Mrs. McHugh worked as a Sales Person at Sears in Dartmouth from 1970-1985. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, where she was on the Ladies Guild, enjoyed playing bingo and being with her family.

She is survived by one son, Michael McHugh and his wife Dorene of New Bedford; four daughters, Alice Ricciardi and her husband John of Crossville, TN, Patricia Houghton of Phoenixville, PA, Veronica Tavares and her husband John of Buzzards Bay and Maureen Burke and her husband Richard of New Bedford; one brother, Raymond Metcalf and his wife Winifred of South Hadley, MA; one sister-in-law, Veronica Wills of O’Fallon, MO; nineteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late John and Thomas McHugh; sister of the late Robert, William and Harold Metcalf; grandmother of the late Joseph Cialkowski and great grandmother of the late Michael T. Sigel.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral mass Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
