Alfredo S. Silva, “Alfie”, age 82, of Acushnet, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by love and prayer. He was the husband of the late Violet L. (Charbonneau) Silva.
Born in Calheta, Madeira Island, a son of the late Victorina (Jardin) DaSilva. He came to the US where he met his wife, raised his family, and established himself as a successful business man. He was a lifelong area resident.
Alfie was a member of Club Sport Madeirense, the Elks, and the Carpenters and Laborers Unions. A successful business man, he was the owner of Alfie’s Place which he ran with his son for 37 years. He was also the owner of The Paula & Carolyn, FSV, The Little Growler, FSV, and The Silver Bay, FSV. He had a smile that could light up any room, and was known for his generosity and helping the less fortunate. Each Thanksgiving he opened Alfie’s Place and personally served a meal to those without family.
He is survived by one son: Alfred R. Silva of Acushnet, three daughters: Diane M. Botelho of Acushnet, Carolyn M. Rodrigues of Fairhaven and Paula M. Negalha and her husband Adelino of Fairhaven, his loving companion: Patricia Davis of Fairhaven, one brother: Emanuel DeSilva and his wife Gladys, seven grandchildren: Joseph Botelho, Justin Botelho and his wife Lauryn, Jordan Silva, Christian and Sofia Rodrigues, and Kross and Chance Negalha, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Silva, Francisco DeSilva, and Virginia Pereira.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2016 at 8:00AM at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
