Alfred E. Lafleur, age 90, of East Freetown passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Josephine A. (Rock) Lafleur, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Alfred J. and Leona I. (Farland) Lafleur and the late Blanche (Desrosiers) Lafleur. He resided in Freetown for the last 51 years. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany guarding the Czechoslovakia border. He was a proud member of the VFW. He attended the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational High School to become a welder and was employed as a pipe-fitter and welder until his retirement.
Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was always the first to step-up and help someone in need. His family was of the most importance to him, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends, including numerous cruises, summer vacations in Hampton Beach, ski trips, and spending winters in Ft. Lauderdale. Fred was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, having attended seven Super Bowls. He was happiest on the sun porch reading. He was adored by his family; his presence and wit will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Neal Lafleur and his companion Jill Swartzendruber of Assonet; Karen Dee and her husband Jimmy of New Bedford; Michelle Souza and her husband Mike of Fairhaven; and Lisa Rogan and her husband Scott of Mansfield. A sister, Dolores Mendes of New Bedford. Ten grandchildren: Courtney (Ed) Brightman, Matthew Lafleur, Meredith (Andrew) Barroso, Peter (Alyssa) Ouellette, Casey and Ben Souza, James and Jonathan Dee and Luke and Paige Rogan; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Sloane Brightman and Xander Barroso. He was the brother of the late Raymond Lafleur, Constance and Vivian Dupont.
Fred’s family would like to thank Hathaway Manor for the exceptional care given to Fred.
