Alan Patrick Melanson

Born March 25, 1961 to the late Dorothy Jean(Silva) Pimental and Joesph Jean Melanson in New Bedford, MA. Alan lived in New Bedford. He graduated from New Bedford High School in 1979 and went on to serve in the Air Force for a brief time before being medically discharged.

Alan loved to bowl and was in a bowling league in his younger days and as a teenager with his grandfather (Earl the Pearl). Alan worked at Harvey Industries for 25 years. He also was a member of the Washington Club in New Bedford. Alan loved his music, movies, and the outdoors. Alan was very family oriented. He loved his great niece and nephew to pieces and was very active in the lives of his nieces and nephews helping them grow up. Cooking brought him great joy and he got really good at it.

His family called him “beach walker” because he liked to be at the beach in the summer. He had a brief illness with cancer that took his life all too soon

His surviving family includes his father, Joesph Jean Melanson of Melbourne Florida; his brother, Dennis Melanson and sister in law Doreen Melanson of Swansea Ma; his sister Kim Melanson and sister Angie Pimentel and brother in law Nelson Pimentel and his youngest brother Brad Pimental all of New Bedford, MA. Also, he has two sisters living in Florida Missy Cannon and Bonnie Melanson; five nieces Tonya, Tiffany, Stefanie, Riley and Shyanne; four nephews, Eric, Marc, Mathew and Lance; one great nephew, Landen and 2 great nieces, Emma Jean and Mackenzie, and many aunts and uncles.

His funeral will be Monday, January 11, 2016 at 10 am in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 4-6 pm. www.rock-funeralhome.com for online tribute/directions.
