William Michael “Bill” Higgins, 89 years of age died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Lincoln Hill Nursing Home in New Albany. He was born December 3, 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Joseph and Mary Higgins, Sr. Bill was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from the City of New Albany, and also worked part time at Target. He was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church, member of American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post #28 and VFW Post #1693; past president of Floyd County Humane Society, New Albany Township Little League, and Floyd County Babe Ruth League; former board member of Southern Indiana Mental Health Association and Floyd County Youth Shelter; and past Cub Master of Pack #36 at Holy Family Church. Bill was an avid bowler and IU fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Blunk Higgins; sister, Margaret Walts; brothers, Joseph Higgins, Jr. and James Higgins, Sr.
Survivors include his sons, Mickey (Mary Jo) Higgins, Denny (Sandy) Higgins; daughters, Karen (Mike) Pearce, Diane (Roger) Laslie, Cathy Higgins; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Mass will be 11:30 am Friday at the Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
