He was the oldest of three children. In 1947, he left Mississippi for Chicago, IL, which is where he met and married Jeanette (Kuykendall) Cunningham and they had three children. Jeanette preceded him in death in 1992. In 1998, Cunningham moved his youngest child (from a previous relationship) and himself to Louisville, KY. On June 24, 2013 at 6:55 p.m., the sun set on Cunningham at the age of 79 years old.
He is survived by his brother, Wilfred; his children, Jerome, Gregory (Vicki), Duane, and Marissa; eight grandchildren, Mardisa, Angel (David), Shannon and Jasmine, Nathan, Tori, Carl, and Chris; three great-grandchildren, Joy, Dale, and Jade; and a host family and friends who will truly miss him.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of his friend's at Community Towers, Gentiva, all of those who cared for him at University of Louisville Hospital, and Kraft Funeral home.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted." A gathering of family and friends will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, IN, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday with a Memorial Service to follow at 7 p.m. Friday in the Kraft Funeral Chapel.
